Our Team

FACULTY AND STAFF LEADERS

Renee Romano, the faculty director of the History Design Lab, is the Robert S. Danforth Professor of History, and Professor of Comparative American Studies and Africana Studies. She specializes in 20th and 21st century American history and is particularly interested in public history, museums, histories of race, and American historical memory. She is the co-director of Oberlin’s Public Humanities Integrative Concentration.

Megan Mitchell, the Digital Initiatives Librarian at the Oberlin College library, serves as the technology advisor for the History Design Lab.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM

Aidan Goldberg is a junior History and Political Science major from Boston. He is an editor of On Second Thought and is on the college rugby team.

Dan Ha Lee is a sophomore Politics major from Vietnam. She is the treasurer for On Second Thought and is working on her own project about historical memory of the Vietnam War in Vietnam.

Caroline Morehouse is a senior double major in Neuroscience and Hispanic Studies. She is the creator of the COVID at Kendal oral history project, which explores how COVID impacted residents at an Oberlin retirement community.

Gunja Sarkar is a senior History and Computer Science major from Seattle, Washington. She is a major rep for the History Department, tutors for the Computer Science department, and is writing a thesis about the ways in which historians have adapted to new digital technologies. She is an editor of On Second Thought.

Alia Schreiber-Goldstein is a fourth-year Environmental Studies and Art History major from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a lead coordinator of the new project to create a digital archive of the experience of COVID at Oberlin..

Meredith Warden is a senior who is majoring in History and minoring in Comparative American Studies. She is writing a thesis about how historical house museums have incorporated queer narratives into their interpretation. She is a member of the field hockey team, a student blogger for the Office of Communications, and a Writing Associate in the Writing Center. She is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Meredith is an editor for On Second Thought and also leads the African American Women’s Intellectual History Project.

History Design Lab Founder: Tamika Nunley, now an Associate Professor at Cornell University founded the History Design Lab when she was an Assistant Professor of History, Comparative American Studies, and Law and Society at Oberlin. She created the History Design Lab to provide opportunities for students to work collaboratively on work about the past.
